At the NYIB, we take pride in celebrating the success of our graduates, and this month, we're shining the spotlight on Amanda Borruso! A dedicated and talented esthetician, Amanda recently earned the prestigious Best Esthetician award at the Long Island Beauty Awards. Her journey from NYIB student to award-winning professional is nothing short of inspiring. In this exclusive interview, Amanda reflects on her time at NYIB, shares insights into her career, and offers advice for aspiring estheticians looking to make their mark in the beauty industry.

What inspired you to enter the esthetics field?
Struggling with my own skin growing up, I wanted to pursue a career I was passionate helping others feel more confident with the right remedies.
What is your favorite thing about being a licensed esthetician?
The unexpected connections I made whether it be colleagues who turned into my best friends, touching moments during classes like On Oncology spa solutions, impacting someone's life by raising their confidence, and networking with familiar faces through these years that helped me grow in my career.
Why did you choose NYIB to complete your esthetics education?
The clinic! I like to be prepared and when I saw their clinic set up and the preparation I would have to treat a client, I felt excited!
What are some of your favorite memories from studying at NYIB?
Taking clients in the clinic with instructors there to guide me. And of course, some lifelong friendships that started there.
What staff or instructors left a lasting impression?
Linda. The ultimate girl boss. She had a vision and kept it growing and dedicated so much of her time to grow the beauty industry. Linda told me how much the beauty industry was expected to grow years after I graduated, and she was spot on!
How do you feel NYIB prepared you for your professional career?
I realized how much more prepared I was to do mock interview facials and pass my stare boards compared to if I went to another school. I didn't realize it while in school but after, it all clicked as to why NYIB operates the way it does.
What does winning Best Esthetician at the Long Island Beauty Awards mean for you and your career?
I was truly taken by surprise as my last few years dedicating my time in the treatment room only, I didn't have time to engage on social media much. It is an honor to be recognized for my dedication to my clients but also beyond the treatment room. This industry can be trying at times, but clients who value your dedication to making them feel their best, and moments like this make it worth it.
What advice do you have for anyone interested in pursuing a career in esthetics?
Educate yourself. Never stop learning. Be valuable to your clients and employers. Make sure your employers and clients value and trust you. Treat every client as if they are your family member coming in so they feel safe investing in you. And, take time to treat yourself so you enjoy your career!
Any other comments you'd like to share regarding your career, esthetics, or the beauty industry in general?
Everyone should do their part to keep this industry ethical. Invest in the right education, devices and employees.
Aside from esthetics and skincare, what other interests are you passionate about?
I love spending time with my significant other, family, dog, and friends! Hanging at the beach and kayaking are my favorite things to do with lots of sunscreen of course! I love summer and always try to get away somewhere warm in the winter months.
