Fall is typically associated with drab colors: muted shades that reflect the coming winter. However, makeup color choices can go beyond the traditional choices of brown and black. For the upcoming fall season, makeup artists will reinvent what it means to look beautiful as the season changes. Inspiration for upcoming fall trends was abundant on the runway at this year’s New York Fashion Week.

Modern Vibrancy

Pantone’s Fall Top 10 Color Palette was created to provide classic autumn color inspiration with a modern twist. The colors are intended to show off a person’s innate need to express individuality while showcasing a creative side. For instance, Pantone’s limelight is a yellow-green shade that will add a dramatic and beautiful effect when applied to darker skin tones. Nebulas blue has a vibrancy that will make eye makeup have a starry-eyed look.

Ombre Lips

For years, ombre has become a popular trend for both hair and nails. This fall, ombre will be seen on lips everywhere. On the Self Portrait runway, the makeup was almost goth-like with dramatic ombre lips in contrasting colors such as midnight blue and berry. Pantone’s fall 2018 colors can be paired too when creating ombre lips with many makeup artists choosing a darker color to line the lips and then a lighter color for the inner part of the lips. Color pairings may include red pear and valiant poppy or ultra violet and crocus petal.

Think Pink

Eye shadow palettes this fall will have plenty of vibrant pinks and purples. Mascara and eyeliner will also be seen worn in eye-catching shades such as hot pink and violet. To add even more high drama, makeup artists will use the floating eyeliner effect when applying these shades, similar to the looks created for the Anna Sui show. Blush is back too with plenty of pink applied to cheeks to blend with the natural rosy glow caused by cooling temperatures.
