Bold can be the single word used to describe New York Fashion Week. Both the fashion and makeup trends seen on the runway were intended to be eye-catching and jaw dropping. Instead of trying to bring back old styles from decades past, designers and makeup artists stayed culturally relevant by introducing new color schemes and styles.
Fashion Trends to Watch For
Bold prints are becoming neutral in the world of fashion. For instance, leopard print was the norm on the runway and not considered an outrageous statement piece. Leopard print trench coats in particular were spotted frequently on the runways, including at the Michael Kors and Tom Ford shows. Cheetah and tiger prints also popped up in bright colors, including a neon orange animal print pantsuit from R13.
Fuchsia was seen almost everywhere during NYFW. Cushnie et Ochs is releasing a sexy and silky stunning gown in fuchsia for Fall 2018. Ulla Johnson had fun with layers as models wore fuchsia sweaters, scarves, mittens, and full skirts.
Speaking of scarves, designers were seen getting creative with neckwear options. Shirts and jackets were draped around necks as models walked the runways. A model in a slip dress at R13 had a parka tied around her neck, while a jacketed model draped in neutral colored clothing had a purple sweatshirt as neckwear during the Tibi show.
Trendy Runway Makeup
Reds and pinks were the colors most often worn on the lips of the fashion models. At the Brandon Maxwell show, models wore red lipstick finished off with a coat of metallic lip gloss. Metallic reds were also part of the look at the Cushnie et Ochs show. Anna Sui’s models had soft pink lips, but stood out with bold eye makeup.
Bright eye makeup was seen elsewhere. Christian Siriano’s models had two-tone eye makeup. Top lids featured a bright splash of a hot pink color while the lower lids were smoky. Sies Marjan took the look one step further by applying dual colors around the entire eye. Models had an inner ring of violet eye shadow accompanied by an outer ring of red shadow.
