At New York Institute of Beauty, we love to reconnect with our graduates. This is always a joy for us, and we love to hear where life has taken them and how they have used their training at NYIB to launch careers in the industry.

Recently, we had such an opportunity when we reconnected with Alexandra Montesano, a former student who is now the owner and President of The Wax Boutique in Manorville.

Alexandra: Then and Now

One of the first interesting things we learned about Alexandra’s career path was that she actually changed her focus after graduating. Originally, she intended to have a career as a Makeup Artist, but she found that that alone wasn’t as consistent as other aspects of the beauty industry.

This led her to waxing! For five years, Alexandra worked at European Wax Center. Over time, she honed her skills and became a trainer to many of the wax specialists who worked there. She told us she found a real love for the close client relationships she formed, the fast-paced environment, and how her work was making women feel great about themselves and their bodies.

After moving to eastern Long Island, she was hired as a wax specialist at The Wax Boutique in Manorville. As an employee there for two years, she was able to quickly amass a consistent client base and expand the services she offered. Then, in October of 2021, she made the big decision to purchase The Wax Boutique from the previous owner who lived out of state and was ready to sell.

What Drew Her to Enroll at New York Institute of Beauty

We wanted to know what originally stirred a love for beauty and esthetics in Alexandra. She told us that for as long as she could remember, she had always had a passion for skincare and makeup. She understood how good it felt to look her best, and she wanted to help other women achieve that same feeling.

When she finally decided to take the plunge and start an esthetics program, she researched numerous schools and quickly found that NYIB was the best of the best. She appreciated the makeup team and remembered specifically how professional the NYIB admissions was when she went for her tour. She also noted the cleanliness and organization of our rooms. Ultimately, she said NYIB was an excellent choice.

A Passion for Service

One of the things that truly sparked an interest in waxing and esthetics for Alexandra was the ability to improve her customers’ lives. She told us that sometimes, a client may be having a rough day or week and they just need to vent. She said it makes her smile when they are able to leave feeling refreshed, happy, and beautiful.

She also noted the pride she feels for her employees. She stated that they make her smile every day. They are so talented and such hard-working women,” she told us. I am truly grateful to have each and every one of them on my team.”

Alexandra’s Advice for New Graduates

We asked what Alexandra’s advice would be for new graduates at NYIB. She had this to say:

Find a genuine connection with your clients, and put out the absolute best service each time. Go above and beyond for your clients, and treat them the way you would want to be treated if you were in their shoes.”

Then, she added these two tips, which she said are key:

Continuing education can never hurt!” and Work hard, but remember to have fun in the industry!”
