New York Institute of Beauty recently caught up with one of our most recent graduates to discuss her goals within the industry and the many ways NYIB helped achieve them. Nicole Deutsch isn’t only a licensed esthetician and makeup artist, but also a business owner. Although Nicole was involved in the makeup industry for almost ten years prior, her time at NYIB paved the way for her to pamper her clients and open up her studio, Face Vibes.
Nicole graduated from NYIB in 2019—a short time before the global pandemic changed the face of all industries, including beauty. However, despite the challenge of launching a new endeavor during the pandemic, NYIB gave Nicole the tools to create a space that would help her clients escape from reality—even if just for a short time. According to Nicole, she aimed to “design a warm and welcoming space of my own where I could offer the brow, lash, and facial treatments I desired with the flexibility to accommodate my makeup-filled weekends.”
Although having a love of makeup from an early age isn’t a prerequisite for enrolling in NYIB, Nicole can trace back her interest in beauty to her preteen years. At 12, Nicole and her mother visited the MAC counter to learn about age-appropriate makeup looks. The experience stuck with her, and from that day on, Nicole wanted to pursue a beauty career. According to her, “I was eager to share this discovery and passion with the world. I wanted to give people this same beautiful experience and empower them to feel their best on the happiest days of their life.” With esthetician training, Nicole can do more for her makeup clients, and she has even connected with new customers.
Going to NYIB was one of Nicole’s easiest decisions. The school’s flexible scheduling and monthly start dates worked well with her already hectic schedule. Also, she enjoyed the professional atmosphere that included working directly with industry experts who were eager to share their knowledge base. Nicole never doubted her competency in passing her state board exams after the comprehensive training she finished at NYIB. The professional esthetician was also quick to point out that NYIB assists graduates with securing top positions in the field post-graduation.
Nicole left future and current students with the following advice: “Seek and take advantage of opportunities to improve not just your craft, but the overall experience and value you offer your clients. Discover and embrace what makes you unique beyond the esthetics treatments you want to offer. It’s easy to doubt yourself as a new professional to the industry and with there being so many other estheticians out there, but be confident in who you are and the full experience you’re offering your clients. They’re not just coming to you for treatment; they’re coming to you for YOU!”
