1. Ensure you have wedding experience to show potential clients.
If you’re new to being a professional makeup artist, you’re in sort of a tough place: While you naturally don’t have experience because you’re new to the industry, you’re probably also experiencing some trouble getting experience because, well, you don’t have experience yet.
The best way to get around this is to do a smaller wedding for free or a deep discount (for a friend or family member, for example). If this isn’t possible, simply do makeup on a friend or family member in some different wedding styles. Finally, take quality pictures of your work.
2. Have a website, and update it regularly.
Your website is your home base. It should have everything that you want your potential clients to know on it: your education and background, a mission statement, a list of your services, pictures or video of your past work, and most importantly how to contact you.
As an additional note, make sure that your contact information is easy to find. Include your phone number and an email address clearly on every page, and think about setting up a live chat and an online submittal form as well.
3. Get active on social media.
The main goal of your social media pages is to get your readers/followers to book with you, so make your social media post topics about wedding makeup and/or makeup in general.
You should be posting at least once a week, if not once a day. Include how to contact you for a booking with every post. This could be the inclusion of your phone number or email address or an invitation to visit your website. Don’t forget to use the appropriate hashtags!
