It’s that time of year again. The holiday season is quickly coming into focus. If you are a student dedicated to a career in the beauty industry, this is a great time to look around for seasonal employment. Many places that hire makeup artists and estheticians are seeking out extra help during the holidays. This is a great opportunity to get in with certain companies that are in high demand, such as Sephora, Ulta, or a skin care spa like Hand and Stone Massage & Facial Spa or European Wax Centers. There are actually tons of opportunities to get some real world experience even if you don’t have your license yet, or have newly acquired it as a graduate of our beauty school. So this holiday season jumpstart your career by working as seasonal help to get the skills you need to better your future. Here are some tips to consider during this process.
Apply Everywhere
Don’t be afraid to fill out applications and leave your resume at many different places. You will definitely increase your chances of landing the right job if your name is out there. Another place to look towards on a retail level is department stores. They usually hire seasonal help especially for the cosmetic area, since many people buy beauty products for themselves during the holiday season while they are shopping for others. They always need holiday help to work this busy area. This is also a chance to do many makeup applications on customers because everyone during the holiday season seems to be on their way to a party. It’s your chance to show off your artistry skill, sell a ton of product, and make some extra money.
They Might Just Keep You
At any of these seasonal jobs, you have the chance of being hired after the holidays are over for regular employment. Trust that if you do a stellar job, outsell, or outshine the regular employees, and are generally an asset to the working environment, they aren’t going to want to let you go. So you might just be invited to work full time at a place that’s very hard to get into. This is definitely true with Sephora and Ulta. People tend to love working at these makeup, skin, and hair care meccas, so the turnover isn’t very high. That means they aren’t hiring all the time during non-holiday months.
Seasonal help is truly the smart way to get in the door. Even if they aren’t able to keep you right away after the holiday season is over, the employer will know you and have your number on their speed dial as soon as permanent employment becomes available. Making smart connections to jobs in the beauty industry will only enhance your career.
