If you love makeup, then there’s a good chance October is one of your favorite months. Halloween offers the perfect excuse to take your makeup looks to the next level. Although you don’t have to do full special-effects makeup applications throughout the month, you can still be daring with the colors and techniques used to create your signature looks.
Creating Contrasts
One way to get inspired by Halloween is to amp up the colors and tones used during your makeup applications. For instance, if you tend to like dark eye makeup, go even heavier than usual. Your makeup application can include dark matte eye shadow, black cream eyeliner and black lash lengthening mascara. Make eyes pop and appear doll-like with false eyelashes. Contrast the dark with reds for the cheeks and lips: think glosses in ruby and purple tones for the lips and cream rosy blushes for the cheeks.
Candy Colored Eyes
Dark eye makeup can grow tiresome after a while. Halloween doesn’t have to mean scary makeup applications. October can also be the perfect time to go wild with color. One pumpkin-inspired look you can try is to apply metallic and matte eyeshadow in orange tones to the upper lids and lower lash line and extend the makeup out for a cat eye. Metallic purples and greens are another eyeshadow option for those looking to create a peacock effect.
Go Vamp With the Lips
Don’t go basic with your lip color when you’re prepping for Halloween. Dark and sultry lipstick is a must for October. Bite Beauty, Kat Von D Beauty and Lime Crime are all makeup brands that carry edgy lip colors. Liquid lip stains are ideal for those who need more moisture while matte lipsticks deliver more of an intense look. Shades to consider include amethyst, deep brown, plum and midnight blue.

Appliqués
Makeup accents were all the rage on the runway for New York Fashion Week. Keep the trend going as Halloween draws near. Geometric shapes, crystals and gemstones can all be added to enhance a makeup application. One look to try features placing colored gems on the corners of the eye after eyeshadow has been applied. Triangular shapes worked into eye makeup and nails are also trendy for Halloween.
