6 Can’t Miss 2016 Beauty Trends

  1. Candy apple red lipstick – When it comes to lip color, red is having a major moment this year. Candy apple red is trending upward, displacing baby pinks and ruddy marsala. The best way to show off this look is to focus on the lips with a matte red and leave the rest of your face fairly plain.
  1. Bronze blush – Fans of all over natural glow will love the bronze blush tones that made runway waves at Balmain, Chloé, and more. Whether your personal style is boho or urban chic, you can’t argue that naturally bronzed bone structure will make you look fresh-faced.
  1. Pink lids – Pink is usually reserved for lips, not eyes, but in 2016 we’re seeing pale pinks all over the eyelids. Fueled by Pantone’s Color of the Year picks (Serenity and Rose Quartz), makeup artists for Dior, Lanvin, and other major runway shows are drawing attention to the eye region with flirty pink eyeshadow and eyeliner. The look is surprising, yes, but almost universally flattering. Try it!
  1. Blue eyes – Blue sparred with pink for runway dominance when it came to the eyes, which is appropriate given that both pale pink and pale blue were Pantone’s Color of the Year picks. Bigger was better when it came to blue eye looks, with models wearing blue eyeshadow bandit masks. You don’t have to be that dramatic in your blue eye looks. Try a blue cat eye or turquoise liner look to stay on trend this season.
  1. Strong brows – The strong brows trend (think Cara Delevingne) continues to dominate this season, adding dimension to the face and keeping interest on the eyes. Defined brows also plays off the soft flirty contrast of a pink eye look, giving your look a playfully androgynous tone. Groom the brows and use a dark brow pencil to add depth and dimension to your eyebrows. To impart shine to your brows, try running lip gloss through them.
  1. Kohl-lined lids – Black is always on trend: For 2016 we’re seeing kohl around the eyes in an updated grunge glam. This look is perfect for nights out when you want to look sleek and sophisticated, or for urban palettes that trend toward darker tones. Pair kohl-lined lids with a neutral eye and lip look to keep the focus on the dark liner.
