Microdermabrasion is truly one of the best treatments for exfoliation hands-down. It’s a method of manual exfoliation that removes the top layer of dead skin cells (outer epidermis) on your client by using a combination of technician skill, a specialized machine, and a shower of microcrystals that buff the skin to perfection.
For people who don’t want extra harsh additives on their skin, this treatment is non-invasive and contains no chemicals. So even people with sensitive skin can usually tolerate microdermabrasion when it’s done correctly. This form of cosmetic exfoliation became very popular during the early 2000s, when more salons, cosmetic dermatologists and medi-spas began offering it. Many times the crystals used are made of aluminum oxide or even diamonds to provide the exceptional exfoliation without damaging the skin.
The Benefits of Microdermabrasion
The results after a microdermabrasion treatment are that the top, dull layer of skin cells are removed, revealing fresh, new skin underneath. That skin will need to be hydrated after any exfoliation treatment. The skin’s appearance is vastly improved with renewed cell turnover. Plus, over the long run, your client will notice that dark spots and uneven tone are reduced. Even fine lines will be diminished. For people who have suffered from acne, it can also reduce old scars to smooth out the skin.
Overall, multiple treatments spaced out are going to help boost the collagen and elastin in the skin as well. Healthier and younger-looking skin are the main benefits of regular microdermabrasion appointments. Your clients will have a radiance that is very easy to notice.
The Procedure Itself
When you go through a microdermabrasion procedure, there isn’t any pain for your client. It’s just deep exfoliation that might make the client’s skin feel a little warm while the machine and crystals are doing the work. There isn’t much downtime, so your client can resume normal activities soon after. Many people love that about this type of service. They can go back to work and put makeup on right after. A little redness might be present on the skin from the manipulation, but it’s not severe in any way. Avoiding the sun for a couple of days and restraining from exercise for 12-24 hours after are the only real drawbacks.
How Often Should Microdermabrasion Be Done?
Ideally, your client should have the treatment done initially every three weeks for four to eight times. Then they can get on a more maintenance-based schedule of once a month, or even every other month. A talented aesthetician will be able to analyze their client’s skin to provide a recommendation on the most effective treatments with the best skin care regimen
