Smokey Eye Makeup

A smokey eye is one of the most in demand looks in the beauty industry right now. From a natural smokey eye to something dark and covered in glitter, we see this technique trending all over the New York area. There are many ways you can help your client wear a smokey eye, it can be gorgeous with just a nude lip and flawless skin or it can be worn with a sharp contour and bright lip depending on the clients’ preferences.

The key with any smokey eye look is to ensure its staying power. Having the right base or primer can let the pigment of your eyeshadow stay true to color while making sure it will resist creasing and smudging. If you don’t have a specific eyeshadow primer, you can always use a bit of concealer in a pinch to even out the lids and act as a base for your look. If you’re taking the concealer route, don’t forget to set it with a translucent powder to prevent creasing!

Start close to the lash line with the darkest color you are using for your lower lid and build your way up into the crease. Using an eyeshadow brush that is small to medium with tighter brush hairs will allow you to deposit the color in an opaque way. Press the eyeshadow pigment tightly onto the lid until you build up the intensity you desire. Don’t forget to apply a highlighting shade underneath the brow bone, this will help amp up the difference between the smokey darker lower lid and the upper brow to open the eye. Another tip to help make the eyes appear more open and bright would be to put the same highlight shade in the inner corner of the eyes.

Your smokey eye doesn’t have to be exclusively dark grey, or black. You can do all kinds of different deep eye looks with dark plums, coppers, bronzes, and even navy, for a look that isn’t your standard basic smokey eye. Get creative with your artistry for amazing results. Sparkles, shine, gloss, or glitter can take your look to the next level of style. Play with textures, and finishes for the best results.
