Whether you’re just starting to experiment with makeup, or have already been using it for a few years, there’s still plenty to learn. As a teen, you want your makeup to appear natural with neutral tones that accentuate your best features while diminishing any imperfections. The type of makeup you use can also make a significant difference in the condition of your skin by managing common skin problems in teens, such as acne. Follow these tips for flawless, age appropriate makeup application.
Prep Your Skin
How you care for your skin is just as important as your makeup. Maintain clear, healthy skin with the use of a daily gentle cleanser. Follow up with a toner to remove excess oils and dirt, then finish with a moisturizer to hydrate and soften your skin. Directly before starting your makeup, apply a primer, which helps makeup go on smoother and last longer.
Use Foundation Sparingly
No one looks good with a ‘cake face’. Apply a light layer of foundation to create a smooth, even complexion that appears natural. If you have acne or blemishes that you want to cover up, add a dab of concealer and tinted moisturizer. You also want to make sure that your foundation matches your skin tone, especially on your neck and chest.
Keep the Eye Area Neutral
It can be tough finding an eye shadow color that complements your face without overdoing it. As a teen, you’ll want to stick with neutral colors for your everyday look. Avoid harsh dark lines around the eyes and shadows that are too glittery or shimmery. Experiment with different colors to find shades that suit your eyes and complexion.
Opt for a Lip Gloss
Apply a hint of color to your lips to instantly enhance your beauty. Lip gloss is sufficient for most teens, preferably one in a pink or another neutral color. If possible, find a lip gloss with a moisturizing formula to keep your lips soft and hydrated while adding a subtle amount of color and shine.
