When the COVID-19 pandemic began in the early weeks of spring 2020, no one could have imagined the lasting impact this virus would have on our day-to-day lives. Initially, it seemed like a few weeks of social distancing and shutdowns would do the trick, but now, as the weeks have turned into months, people realize that significant changes have to be made in order to strike the right balance during the pandemic.
At the New York Institute of Beauty, our students and teachers have faced unique challenges. Some of the changes that have been brought on by the pandemic include:
- Mastering and implementing an increasing number of online courses for our students to take. Rather than the traditional in-person classes that most students were accustomed to, virtual learning has become the norm at our beauty school.
- Transitioning hands-on instruction from live clients to mannequins. Rather than increase the risk of spreading the virus by working in close proximity to members of the public, our students and instructors have learned the tricks of their trade by practicing on lifelike mannequins.
- With NYS now allowing facials and other services to be performed by Estheticians and Makeup Artists, NYIB is taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of its students, staff, and clients assuring a smooth transition into the hands-on portion of the program.
We know that these changes have not been easy on our students or on our educators. When change is ushered in quickly, it can be difficult to adapt. However, we are proud of the fact that our community of students, teachers, and clients at the New York Institute of Beauty have rallied together during this unprecedented time.
There’s no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic has shaken us to our core, and has forced us to make changes that no one ever thought possible. However, we have learned one thing for certain. We are all in this together. This is a trying moment, but it is a passing moment in our history. Our students and teachers have made the adjustments necessary to move forward during this time and to slow the spread of the virus.
The pandemic continues to rage on, and we will still be working hard over the next several months to provide our students with the quality education that they deserve in the safest way possible. But, we’ve got this! We are going to endure this challenge and make sure that our students come out uniquely prepared to face the brave new world that we are creating.
