Erika began her interest in the beauty industry at a young age. Her inspiration began with watching her grandmother work her magic on her clients. She began her journey in the beauty industry in 1999 by completing the Cosmetology program. In 2000, Erika was introduced to a different career path that led her into the medical field. She began working as a Medical Assistant at an OBSGYN. She continued her journey in the medical industry and worked at a hospital as an Analyst for 16 years.
However, during that time, Erika still had the desire to go back into the beauty world. In 2007, Erika decided to follow her dream and came to school for Esthetics here at NYIB. This is where she found her true passion and love for skincare. She could always hear her grandmother say “Never put bar soap on your face” and Erika was finally able to understand the meaning of that.
Erika continues to advance her education. She is certified in many modalities, such as laser and has consulted, trained, and educated other estheticians on treatments for medical spas. Besides understanding the health of the skin, she is a brow expert who has redesigned client brows and loves creating a new look for someone. One of Erika’s specialties is dealing with acne prone skin and executing aggressive treatments to get her clients the best results. She is a chemistry “nerd” and loves to see the results of the many different treatments.
Erika had the opportunity to begin teaching at New York Institute of Beauty in 2011 as a part-time evening instructor. The experience was rewarding for her as she was excited to share her knowledge and skills within the industry. In 2017 Erika was promoted to a Lead Esthetics Instructor. From the growth within the company, Erika has developed curriculum and material for an excellent student experience and education.
