Halloween isn’t only for the kiddos. Each year, men, women, children, and even pets get decked out in festive ghoulish costumes. Makeup artists will be booked solid with appointments for clients looking for outlandish Halloween looks. The New York Institute of Beauty has noticed the following top trends for Halloween makeup this year.
Superhero Glamour
No masks needed for the latest Halloween superhero beauty trends. A smoky-eyed look complemented by dots around the eyes using a white eye pencil can be used to become Shuri from Black Panther. Meanwhile, gold eye shadow with heavy black mascara and red lipstick is the quintessential Wonder Woman look. A new twist on Wonder Woman is creating high drama by using black pencil to outline the nose, lips, and brows. Instead of going dark, you can create a frosty look with white mascara, eye shadow, and an eyebrow pencil to become the Ice Queen (or Elsa for Disney fans). Bright red lips and some bluish blush on the cheek area can finish off this look.
Bright and Shiny Looks
Unicorns, rainbows, and Lisa Frank inspired designs are all expected to be popular Halloween looks this year. With these costumes, you want to work with bright makeup palettes and accessorize with glitter and rhinestones. Animal prints can be added to the face with black face paint and colored rhinestones. As an example, black circular dots drawn on with gold rhinestones centered in the circles have a cheetah appearance. Unicorn looks feature rainbow hair, pastel multi-colored eyes, and a matte lip color such as gold or purple.
Makeup to Scare
Special effects makeup will continue to be popular this year. Instagram will be flooded with images of makeup looks that has you question exactly what you’re looking at. A big trend will be to have half-undead makeup applications. One side of the face will be all about high glamour (perfect foundation, dark eyes, solid lip color) while the other side will be made up using special effects face paint to appear skeletal or gory.
