The Makeup Looks of NY Fashion Week (Spring/Summer 2017)

New York Fashion Week took place this past September. It showcased the Spring/Summer season for 2017. Not only was this a time for all the best designers to showcase their beautiful clothing on stunning models, but the makeup looks each girl wore were just as important. Trends are made on the catwalks, with designers collaborating way ahead of time on each significant cosmetic look to complement the clothing. This is especially true when you think about all the artistry talent designing these specific looks for the runway. Mega makeup artists like Pat McGrath, Charlotte Tilbury, and Gucci Westman were all on hand to lend their expertise. Teams of their artists actually apply the looks to each of the models, but there are a few standouts from the shows this time that are sure to show up in the beauty magazines during the coming months. Luckily, most of these looks are very wearable and will translate well into real life.

This look was a combination of wine-stained lips and matching monochromatic eye shadow on the lids. Each model looked gorgeously fresh with McGrath’s special highlighter from her own line, called “Skin Fetish,” to freshen up the skin. The total look was wearable glamour with those special McGrath touches that make her probably the most in-demand artist in the global fashion world. Models Bella and Gigi Hadid wore the makeup well on their perfect faces, but it would look fantastic on a variety of people. 

With an amazing eye for what looks hot, Pecheux, the Creative Director for Makeup at Estée Lauder, managed to create a look for the Altuzarra show that turned heads. It was a combination of sexy, smudged-up black eyeliner and glistening, almost sweaty skin. The dark-rimmed eyes stood out while the lips were kept fairly neutral with just a touch of gloss. It looked like the models had come from a workout or had just slept on a face full of makeup and went about their day thereafter—very chic indeed with a “devil may care” attitude to the look.

At the Tibi show, Garcia managed to make bronze a simple look. Instead of being used as a highlighter with shimmer, the bronze was more of a soft matte effect. No one feature stood out too much as the eyes, lips, and cheeks were all bronzed to create a minimal look. This is an easy-to-achieve look with just one product that will work all over the face. Milk Makeup’s Matte Bronzer in Baked would work or Nars Matte Multiple Stick in Vientiane.

With gold and coppery shades all over the face, Lucero’s look for the Nicholas K show is going to be hot this fall and into the spring season. Don’t be afraid to rock the metallic look; as long as you keep it fairly sheer, it’s going to be wearable for day or night.
