Trends in 2016 Bridal Makeup

As an esthetician or aspiring makeup artist, it is important to be on the cutting edge of fashion and makeup trends. Since one of the biggest market segments for makeup is brides who want to look perfect on their special day, knowing what’s hot for 2016 weddings is a smart way to go. Below, we’ll discuss some of the biggest trends rolling off runways and out of bridal shows, so you can pass them on to your clients.

Pink lips have always been girlish and dreamy, just what a bride wants on her wedding day. Add a coat of thick, rich gloss and you take the perfect pout to the next level. Try baby pink and watermelon for light-colored skin, rose and rouge for midtones and magenta or hot pink for dark skin. Then slip a coat of clear gloss over the top. Boom! Winged eyeliner isn’t just for Cleopatra. This makeup trick is a go-to for makeup artists, and makes eyes of every color pop. When doing the winged eye, be sure you use a liquid liner that will stand up to long wear, since brides may be unable to hit the bathroom for touch-ups very often. For those with thin lashes, use thick mascara or add some falsies to pump up the jam.

This makeup trend is a fun one, and requires no extra expertise on the part of the makeup artist. Simply ask your bride ahead of time about her floral colors and whether she would like to match her eye shadow like brides in wedding shows have been doing in 2016. Then make sure you pack that hue in multiple shades, so you can dress her lids and brows with a sunset of color.

Coral is a fabulous color at almost any time of year. Even in winter, this flirty shade looks great with white dresses and floral pops. Plus, it’s so versatile. Use it on brows, lips and cheeks. If you do nails as well as makeup, this is also a beautiful hue for fingers and toes.

As always, the effortlessly nude look is in. Especially for weddings at the beach, in a forest setting, or taking place in someone’s backyard, light makeup is perfect. Of course, that doesn’t mean you don’t have a job to do. Instead, your role is to perfect your bride’s face with a minimum of cosmetics. Use a light liner that matches the lash color, clear mascara that lengthens without overly darkening, and light foundation. Add lipstick and a touch of blush, and you’re good to go.
