Pantone’s 2016 colors of the year, Serenity and Rose Quartz, were a natural match for makeup. The 2017 color pick, Greenery, might feel a bit more intimidating. If you’re wondering how to incorporate this color without it overpowering your look, you are not alone. Pantone picked this year’s Color of the Year to renew the spirit and inspire a connection to nature. Greenery is a yellow spring green hue, along the lines of a lime or kiwi color. While the color might be perfectly fine for a dress or necklace, makeup mavens all over New York are a bit flummoxed over how to embrace green without looking weird. It’s tricky, but we have a few suggestions that work well.

Green mascara allows you to give your eyes that ever so slight pop of color when paired with the correct shades of shadow and liner. It’s so subtle that some people won’t even notice you’re rocking a bold hue. This is a good place to start if you are new to green makeup and feeling shy about  with a full-on green eye look.

For more of a bold statement, pick a shimmery yellow-green hue and swipe it across the lids. This bright and playful look is fun for daytime spring and summer looks. To play up the bright palette, consider incorporating a turquoise eye liner, or using yellow eyeshadow to create a sort of ombre effect, from yellow to green.

Yes, there is green lipstick. Light green can look a little sickly, so rather than go with a yellow-green, try a darker hue. Blue-greens are a good place to start, since you can build on the existing blue lipstick trend.

Darker green hues look good on different skin tones. Since green lips are bold, it’s best to keep the rest of the face toned down if you decide to try this ambitious trend.

Nail polish is the easiest place to start if you are still nervous about wearing green lipstick or eye makeup. There are tons of bold green colors and so many fun ways to wear them.
