Come January, we often see an influx of new esthetic or beauty essentials students at New York Institute of Beauty because the beginning of a new year is a great time to start setting goals and planning a career change. The key is to recognize that you deserve nothing less than a rewarding career that will let you lead a happier and more fulfilling life.
When to Consider a Career Change
There are many reasons people decide to change their career paths; a lack of fulfillment or challenge is among the most common. If you don’t feel like the work you’re doing truly matters to you, and it’s difficult to get excited about working each day, it may be time to look for a new direction.
Lay Out a Game Plan
While changing careers typically isn’t something you can do overnight, there are some steps you can begin taking today to work towards a more enjoyable career path.
Start by figuring out your true calling – if you have a true passion in life that has been just a dream or hobby up until now, maybe it’s time to consider the steps that would be involved in making that into a career. For example, if you’re passionate about cosmetics, perhaps a career in a makeup artistry or the esthetics field could be fitting for you!
Secure Training/Education
No matter what career you’re interested in, there’s a good chance you’ll need to complete formal education and/or training to be considered eligible for even entry-level positions. Take some time to research the next steps and how long they’ll take to complete, whether this means finishing a degree program or enrolling in a certification class.
Form a Support Team
Finally, make sure to surround yourself with encouraging and supportive people during this time. If you can find a mentor in your desired field, they will be an extremely valuable asset to you. Even a few friends ready to encourage you or to help with editing your resume, will go a long way.
