2016 was the year of rainbow highlighters, lip kits, and bold brows all across New York. So, what will the year 2017 have in store for us when it comes to makeup? Based on current fashion and pop culture we’ve seen the following trends growing exponentially, which has landed each of them a spot on our list of the top 5 makeup looks for 2017!
Cat Eye Makeup
Who doesn’t love the sleek and sexy cat eye look? Characterized by heavy black liner and bold wings on either side, cat eye makeup takes a little time and trial/error to perfect. Once you do, however, your eyes will look absolutely mesmerizing. We don’t see this trend going away anytime soon.
Return to Lip Gloss
While 2016 may have been the year for matte lipstick in all shades of the rainbow, we anticipate that 2017 will signify a return to basics. Clear and tinted lip glosses will make a comeback, helping women achieve a more youthful and natural look. We’re not saying the matte lip is totally out, but it’ll definitely be competing with other lip trends in the coming year.
Natural Brows
Pencils, powders, and gels…oh my! How many brow products does one need? In 2017, the answer is zero! We expect the trend of thick, penciled-in eyebrows to wane as the year goes on in favor of a more natural look. This is great news if you’ve got naturally straight and thick brows, but it doesn’t necessarily mean we’re encouraging you to skip your waxing or tweezing altogether. Also, for those of you who overplucked your brows in the early 2000’s – Don’t fret! An over the counter product called RevitaBrow can be the solution you’ve been dreaming of. It’s available year-round at new york institute of beauty, so be sure to pick some up the next time you stop in!
Shimmering Shadow
Metallic and shimmering shadows will continue to be huge in 2017. Specifically, the use of shimmering shadow along the lids and below the lash line will become a popular trend, and help your eyes really stand out. Furthermore, two-toned styles that blend into each other will also see resurgence in 2017, so don’t put those metallic and shimmery palettes away just yet.
Skin That Breathes
While matte foundation may have been the trend in 2016, we anticipate that 2017 will be the year of more natural-looking skin and skin tones. Lighter foundations and powders, as well as highlighters, will become a staple of many makeup kits throughout the course of the new year.
These are just a few of what we consider to be the hottest upcoming makeup trends of 2017. Overall, the “done-up” look will wane in favor of a more natural and youthful look which anyone whose strapped for time should appreciate!
